Inspiring the Next Generation Through Aviation
EAA Chapter 509 youth programs introduce young people to aviation through hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world experiences. We create opportunities for students to explore flight, build practical skills, and discover new possibilities in aviation and STEM.
What Students Experience
Through EAA Chapter 509 youth programs, students engage in meaningful, hands-on activities that make aviation tangible and exciting. Our programs are designed to spark curiosity while building confidence and practical skills.
Students may:
Participate in hands-on aviation activities and demonstrations
Learn foundational building and mechanical skills
Connect with pilots and aviation mentors
Explore career pathways in aviation and STEM fields
Experience flight through programs such as Young Eagles
We focus on creating welcoming, encouraging environments where students can ask questions, try new things, and grow.
Programs We Offer
-

Young Eagles Flights
Young Eagles provides youth with the opportunity to experience a free introductory flight with a volunteer pilot. For many students, this is their first time in a small aircraft, an unforgettable experience that often sparks interest in aviation.
These flights are conducted by experienced volunteer pilots who prioritize safety and education.
-
Build and Learn Opportunities
Our hands on build and learning sessions introduce students to the fundamentals of aircraft construction, tools, materials, and problem solving. These sessions emphasize learning by doing and encourage students to develop practical skills and confidence in a supportive environment.
Students do not need prior experience, just curiosity and a willingness to try something new.
-

Community and School Outreach
We participate in school events, STEAM nights, and community open houses to connect students and families with aviation opportunities.
Through interactive displays and hands on activities, we make aviation accessible, engaging, and approachable, helping students explore educational pathways and discover exciting career possibilities in STEM fields.
Exploring Aviation Careers
For students who want to explore aviation beyond their first flight, EAA Chapter 509 offers mentorship connections with professionals working across a variety of aviation careers.
Students may have opportunities to connect with:
Professional pilots
Aircraft builders and mechanics
Aviation business owners
Air traffic control professionals
Aviation educators
Industry specialists across the aviation field
Through conversations and guidance, students gain a clear understanding of the many pathways available within aviation.
Our goal is to help young people move from curiosity to clarity, connecting their interests to real world opportunities.
Teen Aviation Development Group
For teens who are serious about pursuing aviation professionally, our teen group gathers regularly to learn, grow, and support one another as they work toward becoming future pilots.
By working together and learning from mentors, teens gain practical insight and a supportive community as they pursue long term aviation goals.
This group provides structure and encouragement for students who are ready to take the next step in their aviation journey.
This group focuses on:
Understanding the pathway to becoming a professional pilot
Learning about flight training requirements and certifications
Exploring aviation careers and industry expectations
Building discipline, responsibility, and aviation knowledge
Encouraging peer accountability and support
Safety and Mentorship Matter
EAA Chapter 509 youth programs are supported by experienced volunteers who value mentorship, safety, and positive learning environments. We strive to ensure that every student feels welcomed, respected, and encouraged.
Our programs emphasize responsible behavior, safety awareness, and thoughtful supervision at every stage.
Strong mentorship and structured guidance are central to meaningful youth experiences.
